For the construction of one of the largest pipelines in the world - the Trans Anatolian Gas Pipeline (TANAP) - ArcelorMittal is supplying 310,000 tonnes of hot rolled coils from its production site in Bremen, Germany, which is one third of the total rolled stock required for the TANAP project.
In addition, this order is the largest for ArcelorMittal in Europe received by the company from the oil and gas industry. According to http://www.hitarm.ru/, the TANAP gas pipeline, 2000 km long, will pass through Turkey from the Shah Deniz field in Azerbaijan towards the European border, intending to ensure the supply of energy resources to Europe.
The construction, totaling about $ 7 billion, is expected to be completed by 2018. Once completed, the new gas pipeline will be able to transport over 16 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year.
Stefan Tondo, Director of Energy Product Marketing at ArcelorMittal Europe, said the company has provided steel to the world's oil and gas pipelines for more than 30 years and has a proven track record in this area. Closeness to the customer and constant technical support, combined with the high quality of the Bremen plant, will ensure success.
ArcelorMittal CEO Bremen, said: "This is an exciting and challenging project for us. Deliveries will start in 2015 and continue for two years. This demonstrates our ability to meet high quality requirements and deliver on time."
