According to the latest statistics released by the International Stainless Steel Forum (ISSF), global stainless steel production grew 8.9 percent during the nine-month period in 2014, compared to 2013.
The total volume was 30.90 million tons for the period, up 8.9 percent compared to the output of 25.15 million tons in the corresponding period of the previous year.
However, production declined in the third quarter of 2014, compared with the previous quarter in Western Europe by more than 20 percent. Central and Eastern Europe also saw a 2.3 percent drop in production on a quarterly basis. Stainless steel production in China was down 4.8 percent, while the Asia region, excluding China, reported a 2.5 percent drop in output.
However, stainless steel production in all regions of Central and Eastern Europe has increased in nine months. Stainless steel product yields in the Americas rose 15 percent during the period to 2.097 million tonnes.
China's production increased 13 percent during the nine-month period of the year 2014 to 16.022 million tonnes. Asia's output, excluding China, rose 1.9 percent. In addition, production in Western Europe and the African Region recorded 4.8 percent year-on-year growth.
