According to the latest data released by Japan's Ministry of Finance (MoF), stainless steel exports from the country fell sharply during the month of November last year. Japan's total stainless steel exports for the month were 91,646 tonnes, down 5.7 percent from the previous month when stainless steel exports reached 97,186 tonnes in October 2014.
The largest export destination for Japanese stainless steel is China. Exports to China amounted to 25,369 tons. However, exports from Japan to China decreased by 16.2 percent compared to exports in October 2014. South Korea ranked second in terms of total imports. Exports of stainless steel products to South Korea increased 4 percent from the previous month to 15,472 tonnes. The third largest export destination was the United States. Imports of Japanese stainless steel to the United States totaled 6,321 tons, up 43.3 percent from the previous month.
The average export price of stainless steel in Japan during November 2014 was $ 3,650 per tonne. Compared to the previous month, the export price decreased by almost 8.5 percent. During the month, Japan's stainless steel exports generated total revenue of $ 334 million.
