The new railway line will restore communication between the steel plants of Mariupol and the seaport

Новый железнодорожный путь восстановит сообщение между сталелитейными заводами Мариуполя и морским портом
A new section of the railway, bypassing the bridge over the Kalchik River, which was destroyed in a terrorist attack, connected steel plants in the city of Mariupol with a commercial seaport located on the coast of the Azov Sea, according to Metinvest Group, which includes metallurgical plants.

Metinvest clarifies that the first testing of the constructed reserve railway track has been carried out. A diesel locomotive with fifteen loaded wagons tested the new railway. The completed line is already ready for work. According to a press release from Metinvest, the length of the new section of the railway line is 1,138 meters. In addition, a new pedestrian crossing was built for residents of nearby houses and a road for cars was restored.

Yuri Zinchenko, General Director of Ilyich Iron and Steel Works said that “a reserve section for railway communication has already been built. Now we will be able to receive raw materials and ship finished products through the seaport. I would like to note that in the first days the trains will run on the new track only during the day and at a speed not exceeding 20 km /h. This is necessary for soil shrinkage under the railway tracks, after the passage of freight trains. "

Enver Tskitishvili, general director of the Azovstal plant, said that the backup track was built as soon as possible, thanks to the efforts of Azovstal and Ilyich workers, as well as well-coordinated work with Ukrzaliznytsia employees. After the construction of the backup track, the restoration of the destroyed bridge will continue. According to experts, these works will be completed within three months.
