The area that surrounds the capital, Beijing, belongs to Hebei Province and contributes about a quarter of the country's total steel production.

Hebei province has been one of the main target areas for the government in the war against environmental pollution. The report says the region is one of the seven smokiest in the entire country.

At the annual session of the provincial legislature, the Governor said that the province faced difficult and difficult challenges in 2014. In this regard, the province decided in 2013 to reduce the production of crude steel in the region by 60 million tons in the period 2014-2017, as well as to reduce coke production by 60 million tons and to reduce the use of coal in electricity generation by 30 million tons.
