TATA Steel has launched innovative structural steel products that can accelerate the construction of new buildings and reduce the weight of equipment or large vehicles. The new generation of steel is called Celsius® 420. This steel was developed in collaboration with customers in the construction industry for use in demanding construction projects. Steel provides significant weight savings, allowing construction crews to reduce construction costs and time.
Celsius® 420 also has potential for use in industrial machinery, agricultural machinery and vehicles. Henrik Adam, Sales Director for Tata Steel Europe, said: “Our Celsius® range is already very well known in the hollow profile market. But we know that our customers are constantly looking for materials with improved properties. With the Celsius® 420, we are bringing to the market a completely new range of hollow structural sections that have high strength (420 mega pascals), enabling civil engineers to reduce the weight of hollow sections. ”
The special chemical properties of Celsius® 420 provide good weldability of the elements. This property is considered unique in the production of high strength pipes and structures that can be fabricated without changing the standard welding procedure. In addition, the possibility of small radii and angles of square and rectangular profiles is retained to ensure aesthetics.
A wide range of Celsius® 420 round, square, rectangular and elliptical hollow sections were introduced late last year and are currently undergoing customer trials. The sections are made from strip sourced from Tata Steel's South Wales factories in the UK.
