The construction of one of the most advanced factories in the world, Factory 2050 in Sheffield, has passed another important milestone. Steel construction commenced in Sheffield Business Park, based on the advanced research and development center (AMRC).
The equipping of the research block and workshops should begin at the beginning of May 2015, and the completion of the project as a whole is scheduled for the end of this year. One of the promising areas is the secondary plastics processing and plastic packaging.
The landmark of the facility are the glass walls of the reconfigurable plant. The project was designed to meet the growing demand for advanced designs while providing a high level of manufacturing flexibility. Factory 2050 was designed so that machines and production modules can be easily moved around the workshop.
Sophisticated monitoring systems will be able to generate significant amounts of information that will be used to develop technology to change the way machines and all processes operate, to increase production rates and minimize tool wear, while maintaining high quality.
The Factory 2050 will also include advanced green energy technologies, including a large onshore heat pump project that eliminates the need for a boiler or refrigeration plant.
The 2050 Factory will be key to the county's cutting-edge manufacturing innovation in the UK, as well as economic growth, job growth and exports. It will be the first site for a new manufacturing center of excellence, which includes the construction of new research facilities on an area of up to a million square meters in Sheffield Business Park over the next 10 years.
A new stage in the construction of Factory 2050 has begun
