Members of the International Tin Industry Association (ITRI) have supported the development of a new industry code that is expected to raise standards for the global tin industry. After conducting a thorough analysis of the sector's performance, ITRI announced its commitment to building a sustainable industry position in the coming years.
The industry body recently announced the appointment of the CEO of Yunnan Ting Corporation as its new chairman. The association plans to hold an International Tin Industry Forum in Shanghai between May 18-21, 2015. construction of exhibition stands and other advertising structures has been started especially for this purpose. China's support for ITRI has grown significantly over the past year, and its regional activities will be coordinated by the Beijing office.
ITRI's membership has expanded over the past year with the addition of Rahman Tin (Malaysia), Bluestone Mines of Tasmania (Australia), and Mineração Taboca (Brazil). Nevertheless, many more companies remain outside the association. ITRI says stronger membership would prepare the organization for a more resilient state of affairs in the face of industry challenges.
ITRI members also agreed to work together to develop an industry code. The proposed code of conduct is intended to help tin users and consumers to differentiate responsibilities between suppliers in order to make the right purchasing decisions. It will also help create new industry standards and attract more tin producers to the trade organization. Work on improving the code should begin in the coming months, ITRI said.
