Brazilian ferroalloy exports fell in January 2015

Brazilian ferroalloy exports fell 41.8 percent year on year to 21,266 tons in January from 36,555 tons in January 2014, according to data released by the Ministry of Development, Industry and Trade.

The volume of exports in monetary terms in January amounted to $ 203.360 million FOB, down 9.3 percent compared to the same month last year, the ministry said. January shipments fell 20.9 percent from December to 26,913 tons, while the value of exports was slightly higher compared to December.

China was the top export destination for Brazilian ferroalloys in January this year, importing 4,762 million tonnes, down 7.9 percent from the 5,133 tonnes received in January 2014, but 5.8 percent up from 4,466 tonnes in December. ... China's imports account for nearly 23 percent of Brazil's total ferroalloy exports. China's January sales totaled $ 53.3 million FOB, down 7.9 percent year-on-year and 6.9 percent from the previous month.

The Netherlands was the second largest buyer of Brazilian ferroalloys. In January 2015, shipments to the Netherlands fell 56.7 percent to 2,390 tons, compared with imports of 5,528 tons in the same month of 2014 and 16.5 percent below December shipments of 2,864 tons. Ferrosilicon, ferronickel and ferroniobium accounted for 95.9 percent of Brazilian shipments and 99.8 percent of January sales, according to the data.
