A leading Turkish manufacturer of rebar and rods plans to build a 2,800 cubic meter blast furnace at Canakkale in the western part of the country. The estimated cost of the project is $ 600-700 million.
The company's investment manager Ulvi Gunduz said that “the company is currently receiving offers from potential material suppliers. We have already received proposals for the blast furnace project from some Chinese and European engineering divisions. We cannot provide an exact start date for the project, but negotiations are ongoing. "
In addition, Gunduz confirmed that “the new kiln will be built within two years and will boast a capacity of 1 million tons per year. We also plan to build a sinter plant with a capacity of 3 million tons per year and a coke oven battery with a capacity of 1 million tons per year ”. The blast furnace project includes the construction of an off-gas power plant. The plan provides for the consumption of raw materials up to 4 million tons of iron ore per year, 1.5 million tons of coking coal per year, 1 million tons of coke and 400 thousand tons of anthracite per year.
Since 1970, Icdas has been producing structural and alloy steel, being the second largest steel producer in Turkey in terms of production capacity. The company has about 10,000 employees. As the largest privately-owned steel company in the country, Icdas is continually engaged in the implementation of advanced technology in steel production and energy efficiency in Canakkale with significant investments. And the construction of a new blast furnace will reduce Icdas' demand for ferrous scrap.
