At MMK, Mill 2000 set a new record for hot rolled steel production

OJSC Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works produced over 526,000 tonnes of metal at its 2,000 hot-rolled mill in January 2015, a new record in terms of production since the mill was opened in 1994. The previous monthly record was 520,000 tons and was set in October 2014.

Hot Rolling Mill 2000 at MMK is one of the most impressive and advanced sheet rolling facilities in Russia. Its equipment allows the production of a full range of all grades of steel. Sheet width varies from 760 mm to 1830 mm. Mill 2000 produces the widest range of products at the mill and includes about 1000 items.

The plant produces steel for various industries, including construction and mechanical engineering. Structural and transformer steels are also produced, rolled products are produced, which are used in the production of automotive sheet and shipbuilding. In 2014, Hot Rolling Mill 2000 achieved production of almost 6 million tonnes of metal, the highest result since its launch.

Now the equipment is being introduced, which will make it possible to switch from a semi-automatic mill control mode to a fully automated process. Prior to this, a major modernization of the unit was carried out in the middle of 2000, when the 4th heating furnace was put into production within the framework of the project, and the mechanical equipment of the mill was replaced with a more modern one, which made it possible to increase the thickness, quality and mechanical parameters of the products.
