The world's largest steel producer ArcelorMittal considers its site in Germany to be strategically important. More than 7 million tonnes of steel are produced at the group's four German plants in Bremen, Duisburg, Eisenhüttenstadt and Hamburg, representing about 20 percent of the group's European production. The main goals of the Group for 2015 include the creation of modern, energy-efficient facilities, as well as increased responsibility for the safety of employees.
This year, € 88 million will be spent on the modernization and competitiveness of the Group's steel products in Germany. Frank Schultz, CEO of ArcelorMittal Germany, said that "Germany is considered a good place for value-added manufacturing." Around 10 million euros will be invested in the reconstruction of two steel plants in Bremen. New modern molds will be installed on the continuous casting line. In Duisburg, ArcelorMittal is investing a total of € 6.5 million by mid-2015 in the conversion of a continuous casting line.
Completed in 2010, the € 135 million rolled product facility also envisions further investment to provide greater flexibility in new segments of the automotive market. At the Eisenhüttenstadt plant in Brandenburg, the group is going to invest about 34 million euros this year to improve the performance of the pulverized coal injection system in the blast furnace. It is also planned to install a new internal crane at the hot rolling mill.
The galvanizing line modernization concept will continue with the installation of a new muffle furnace. In 2015, numerous ongoing investments will be made in Hamburg, including a new analyzer container at the steel mill, the commissioning of a new crane and the construction of an additional warehouse for rolling stock. The gas seal compressor was renewed last year, resulting in a reduction of CO2 emissions from power generation by approximately 1,700 tonnes.
