Global aluminum production fell in February

According to statistics released by the International Aluminum Institute (IAI), global aluminum production during February this year, excluding China, declined from the previous month. However, compared to the same month a year ago, the output in February 2015 has improved significantly.

Aluminum production in February this year was 1.911 million tons, up nearly 9 percent from the revised 2.104 million tons in January, according to IAI. That being said, the output in February 2015 was almost 2 percent higher compared to the output of 1,868 tons in February last year.

Cumulative aluminum production in the first two months of this year was 4.015 million tonnes, slightly up from 3.919 million tonnes in the same two-month period in 2014.

Average daily aluminum production during February this year was higher year on year. The daily output, excluding China, averaged 68,300 tons per day, up 400 tons per day compared to an average output of 67,900 tons in January this year. Average daily production rose by 1,600 tons per day compared to 66,700 tons in February last year.

The IAI, founded in 1972, currently accounts for over 60 percent of the world's production of bauxite, alumina and aluminum. The Institute works closely with national and regional aluminum associations. IAI includes companies in the bauxite, alumina, aluminum, aluminum recycling or joint venture industry.
