Tata Steel completed the acquisition from SSAB (Sweden) of two service centers and 50 percent of a third service center, in which the company already owns 50 percent. Tata Steel acquired SSAB's service centers in Halmstad in Sweden and Naantali in Finland, as well as the remaining 50 percent of Norsk Stål Tynnplater AS, whose service center is based in Fredrikstad, Norway.
Service Centers offer a variety of cut to length and other metal processing and services to customers in the automotive, construction, power, and heavy and light equipment industries. The acquisitions were approved by the national competition authorities. SSAB sold the business as a condition for Rautaruukki OJSC to take over.
Henrik Adam, Commercial Director for Tata Steel Europe, said: “Beyond these service-oriented operations, the new centers fit perfectly into Tata Steel's existing business, given its focus on providing customers with the most innovative products and services that must be competitive in the European market.
We have been serving clients in the Scandinavian region for many years and there is an increasing demand in the region for the high-tech products that Tata Steel makes. These additions to our regional processing capabilities will help expand the services we can offer to northern customers. We are pleased to welcome new colleagues who will support us in the Nordic region. "
