The port operator reports that the volume of cargo transshipment at the terminals of OJSC "Sea Port of St. Petersburg" in the 1st quarter of 2015 increased by 5 percent to 2 million tons compared to the same period in 2014. The port is part of the stevedoring division of the transport group UCL Holding, which is the largest international operator.
Against the background of an increase in export deliveries of Russian metallurgical enterprises, the volume of ferrous metal cargo handling in the port of St. Petersburg increased, which reached 597 thousand tons, an increase of 8 percent compared to the previous year. In the port, there was an increase in the transshipment of non-ferrous metals by 22 percent to 396 thousand tons, including an increase in the shipment of aluminum for export.
However, during the 1st quarter of 2015, the handling of rolling cargo decreased by 38 percent to 83 thousand tons, which is explained by a decrease in the traffic of imports of new passenger cars to the Russian market. The transshipment of mineral fertilizers also decreased by 27 percent, which is associated with a change in freight traffic in favor of specialized terminals in Russia. During the reporting period, 25 thousand tons were handled. food cargo, the processing of which began at the end of last year.
The port's export cargo traffic in the 1st quarter increased by 6 percent to 1.7 million tons, while the import one rose by 4 percent to 0.3 million tons, all compared to the first quarter of last year. At the same time, the share of imports in the total volume of cargo turnover amounted to 15 percent, exports - 85 percent.
