Export and import of iron ore and coal in Ukraine in January-April

According to data published by the State Service of Ukraine, in the period from January to April of this year, Ukraine exported 14.75 million tons of iron ore, which is 13.9 percent higher, and in monetary terms, totaling 769.210 million US dollars, which is 42.6 percent lower on an annualized basis.

The bulk of iron ore exports came from China (45.65 percent), Poland (10.50 percent) and the Czech Republic (10.52 percent). At the same time, in the first four months of this year, Ukraine imported 670,079 tonnes of iron ore, down 42.7 percent, for a total of $ 33.64 million, down 66.9 percent YoY. The main supplier of imported iron ore in this period was Russia, which supplied 99.99 percent of total imports.

The Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine reports that thermal power plants (TPPs) and combined heat and power plants (CHPPs) received 720,300 tons of imported coal in January-March 2015. According to this data, in the first quarter, the power plants received 470,200 tons of coal from South Africa, 178,200 tons from Russia, and 71,900 tons from Poland. In particular, in March South Africa supplied 184,500 tons, the Russian Federation - 58,200 tons. Coal reserves in the warehouses of thermal power plants and thermal power plants in Ukraine in March 2015 decreased by 29 percent, and as of April 1, they amounted to 900,100 tons, including reserves of G + D grade coal amounted to 612,500 tons, ASh + T grade - 287,600 tons.
