Steel production in Ukraine fell by 30 percent in January-April

According to the data of the METALLURGPROM business association, steel production in Ukraine decreased by 30 percent to 7.08 million tonnes in the first four months of 2015 compared to the same period last year.

The merger said pig iron production fell 32 percent to 6.43 million tonnes, while rolled steel production fell 31 percent to 6.18 million tonnes year-on-year. At the same time, coal production fell 42 percent to 3.29 million tons from the same period a year earlier. The production of pipes decreased by 29 percent and amounted to 289 thousand. tons.

During April 2015, 1.927 million tonnes of steel were produced, up 13.6 percent compared to the 1.696 million tonnes of steel produced in March. Total rolled stock in April produced 1.688 million tons, which is 17.7 percent more compared to 1.434 million tons of the previous month. Pig iron output rose 8 percent to 1.706 million tons from 1.570 million tons in March. Pipe production in April fell to 68.8 thousand tons, compared to 92 thousand tons in March. Coke output rose slightly to 841 thousand tonnes in April from 814 thousand tonnes of coke in March.

During this period, the Donetsk Electrometallurgical Plant and the Alchevsk Metallurgical Plant did not work, and the latter is preparing for launch as issues are resolved on the delivery of raw materials and the shipment of finished products from the zone controlled by Kiev.
