Egypt to build two solar power plants in Congo

Египет построит две солнечные электростанции в Конго
The Egyptian government plans to build two US $ 6 million solar power plants in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The 2 MW project will be implemented as part of Egypt's commitment to assist Congo in the economic development process. Government sources say the construction costs will come from the Egyptian Fund for Technical Cooperation with African Countries and the Arab Industrialization Organization (IDO) through a direct order.

It is believed that the IDF's intention to implement such a project abroad underscores Egypt's attentiveness to establishing friendly relations with the Congo and raising living standards in the country. According to government information, a plan was agreed with the IDF to build two solar power plants in Kinshasa with a capacity of 1 MW each. The operation of the two power plants will be connected at medium voltage to provide electricity for 24 hours through batteries and electrical transformers.

In turn, Congo assessed its position on the Entebbe Treaty, which unites this country with Egypt and Sudan. The Congo government emphasizes that it will not oppose the project on the Congo River, which is being carried out in exchange for Egyptian compensation and investments, in order to avoid raising water prices. The Egyptian Fund for Technical Cooperation with Africa plays an important role in shaping Egypt's foreign policy in Africa. This policy aims to provide technical assistance to African countries, as well as fellowships and training in various sectors, taking into account the special priorities and needs of African countries.

The Entebbe Agreement replaces the 1929 colonial-era agreement that allowed Egypt and Sudan a majority use of the Nile River. The agreement brings together countries such as Rwanda, Tanzania, Kenya and Burundi. The Democratic Republic of the Congo also announced its intention to join the agreement. At the same time, the Egyptian government intends to ensure close cooperation on the management of the Nile River.
