Iran can use the Turkish Stream to supply gas to the EU

Иран может использовать Турецкий поток для поставок газа в ЕС
Iran is considering using the Turkish Stream pipeline, which is being developed by Russia, to supply gas to Europe, Azizollah Ramezani, director of communications for the National Iranian Gas Company, said on the sidelines of a gas congress held in Paris.

He said that "This could be a common field of activity in the field of gas pipelines. In the future, Iran's gas pipelines will be able to reach Europe through the Russian gas pipeline to Europe, which can be connected and supply gas to Europe together." The Turkish Stream is a pipeline under construction from Russia to Turkey along the bottom of the Black Sea with a planned capacity of 63 billion cubic meters of gas. Ramezani believes that “it is quite possible, although there have not been any negotiations on this issue yet, but it may be a good idea to start discussions at the moment when the Russian and Turkish pipelines are heading to Europe, and it could also be one of the options for Iranian gas to reach Europe. "

According to Ramezani, the Turkish Stream is not the only route for gas supplies that Tehran is considering. Iran envisions five to six routes, including through the Black Sea, Iraq, Syria and the Mediterranean Sea. He said that each route will be studied in accordance with the norms of economic value efficiency. He clarified that the route will be chosen only after Western sanctions related to his nuclear program are completely lifted. Iran has repeatedly announced in recent months that it will participate in regional and international oil and gas projects following the lifting of sanctions.

Iran and the world powers reached a decision on the key parameters of the program following talks in Switzerland in April. The deal set the stage for a future comprehensive nuclear deal, which is expected to be concluded on June 30. Iran, which has the world's second-largest natural gas reserves, is now paralyzed by international sanctions and has no access to foreign investment to explore new areas and develop production. Gas exports from Iran will be of global importance to the gas industry.
