Russian steel company Evraz is temporarily suspending operations at its North American production base in Pueblo due to weak demand. A company spokesman said we have temporarily scaled down steel production at our Pueblo site for one week to keep up with falling demand.
About 100 employees will be temporarily laid off from the plant pending the resumption of demand for its products. Evraz and other metallurgists who produce pipes for the oil and gas industry have been paralyzed by a 40 percent drop in oil prices since last June. Earlier it was reported that in January, Evraz notified 200 workers of layoffs at its Pueblo plant until prices improved.
