For the first time, Samsung's latest Galaxy S6 and S6 smartphones will feature a case made of high-strength aluminum. The cell phone maker has struck a deal with one of the leaders in the aluminum industry, Alcoa Inc (Alcoa). The company, with its corporate headquarters in New York, is the third largest aluminum producer in the world, behind Rio Tinto Alcan and Rusal.
Under the agreement, Alcoa will supply high-strength aerospace-grade aluminum for the latest range of Samsung smartphones. The 6013 Alcoa Power Plate is expected to strengthen the phone's structure by 70 percent compared to standard aluminum used in phones. The new aluminum alloy will allow you to create thin, light and reliable phone models by increasing the strength of the case.
According to representatives of the South Korean multinational conglomerate Samsung, the metal design for the Galaxy S6 and S6 has become a must for the company in an effort to find a lighter, but stronger metal that can attract customer interest. From several options, the company ultimately found that Alcoa's aluminum plates would make its smartphone models ideal, offering very lightweight and more durable materials.
Aerospace grade aluminum offers advanced capabilities by combining high strength with unsurpassed corrosion resistance. The superior grade of aluminum has been extensively tested in various fields such as aerospace, automotive, and military industrial. The durability of the metal is undeniable when handled roughly under various conditions of use.
Meanwhile, the Alcoa cooker, designed and built by the Alcoa Tech Scientist Center, enables Samsung to create one of the thinnest, lightest and strongest aluminum cookers currently on the market. The deal with Seoul-based Samsung is expected to expand the high value-added product order book for Alcoa's business.
