Export of iron ore from Ukraine increased by 14 percent

The latest statistics published by the State Statistics Committee of Ukraine show that iron ore exports from Ukraine increased significantly during the first five months of 2015 at an annualized rate. This was reported by the Belbud-Plast company, which offers windows in Kiev and other cities of Ukraine.

Producers and consumers of raw materials in Ukraine are not heavily dependent on the political and social crisis in the country and continue to trade in an ascending order.

The export of iron ore from the country amounted to 18.77 million tons in January-May this year. This is 13.8 percent higher when compared with exports during the corresponding five-month period in 2014, when Ukraine exported 16.49 million tonnes of iron ore. The total value generated by the export of iron ore from the country during this period was $ 926 million. However, the volume of exports of iron ore in monetary terms decreased sharply compared to the previous year by 44.1 percent. Iron ore exports from Ukraine during the first five months of 2014 contributed to a total value of $ 1,657 million.

The main directions for Ukrainian exports of iron ore were: China with 46.04 percent of supplies, Poland with 10.25 percent and the Czech Republic with 10.55 percent of the total supply.

Meanwhile, Ukraine imported 934,085 tons of iron ore during the five months from January to May this year. Imports fell sharply from the previous year, down 34.4 percent. Imports of iron ore from Ukraine in the period from January to May 2014 amounted to 1,420,000 tons. In addition, the value of imports in monetary terms showed a fall by 62.8 percent year on year to $ 45.99 million.

The main supplier of iron ore during the first five months of 2015 was Russia, accounting for 99.98 percent of total exports. In addition, Russian exports of iron ore, coke and pig iron still move through Ukrainian ports. Among the minor suppliers of iron ore globally, only Ukraine and Russia showed strong export growth over the period.
