A joint venture between the Russian PJSC Severstal and Japan's largest financial and industrial group Mitsui, ZAO Severstal-SMC-Vsevolozhsk, has presented a new service center. The joint venture was established in 2010 with the aim of further processing Severstal's automotive steel sheet along the auto parts production chain. Combining the strengths of the two companies should ensure market success.
Mitsui's experience in managing a service center and Severstal's technical capabilities in the supply of rental products for the automotive industry will contribute to the activities of international car manufacturers in Russia. Severstal-SMTs-Vsevolozhsk provides a full range of services for processing sheet steel, including cutting to length and slitting, preparation for subsequent stamping and the production of welded blanks.
The service center is equipped with a unique line for the production of welded parts for the automotive industry. This is the first line in Russia and the CIS countries, with the launch of which the steel company was able to enter the market for ultra-light steel billets used by automakers in assembly in Russia. The enterprise has the ability to weld steel with a thickness of 0.5 - 3 mm. Severstal-SMTs-Vsevolozhsk supplies welded billets for international production lines located in St. Petersburg and other Russian cities. For example, Nissan in St. Petersburg uses them for the manufacture of doors and car floors.
Severstal-SMTs-Vsevolozhsk is equipped with press lines designed to process a wide range of steels, including high strength classes. The press is capable of cutting blanks from sheet metal with a thickness of 0.5 - 3.2 mm. The cut-to-length line is designed for cold-rolled, hot-rolled and galvanized sheet steel with a thickness of 0.4 - 2.3 mm. The slitting line provides cutting of steel with a thickness of 0.3 - 4.5 mm and a width of up to 1850 mm.
Currently, Severstal-SMC-Vsevolozhsk has a production capacity of about 5,000 tons per month. As it reaches its design capacity, the center will be able to produce about 150,000 tons per year. About 60 percent of the products will be supplied to car manufacturers. The rest is intended for construction and engineering companies, including the production of household appliances. The total investment in the project is over 1.7 billion rubles.
