Dutch company achieves 96% vehicle utilization

A recently released report from the Netherlands-based company ARN Auto Recycling over the past year noted the sustainability of its recycling technologies, which have achieved 96 percent recycling and recovery of materials by vehicle weight. It should be noted that the European Region has set a target that suggests that 95 percent of the vehicle's weight must be recycled for reuse.

There is a National Recycling Scheme throughout the Netherlands for used vehicles. According to the company, it performs post-shredding at a facility (PST) in Thiel, which recycles around 40,000 tonnes of car residues each year. The company expects the PST plant to reach full capacity in 2015, with broader processing options. ARN's performance was rated “excellent,” according to the report, but the company said there is still much room for improvement in the recycling process.

ARN Managing Director Arie de Jong said he intends to develop Futureproof's reporting system by identifying future refining times and volumes. For each process, vehicles with a defined end-of-life will be assembled, as well as vehicles that are currently driving on Dutch roads. This will not only help ARN comply with European control regulations, but also meet the requirements of the Dutch government. The research findings will provide a clearer picture of chain performance, the ARN director said. This data will also be included in the 2015 calculations for processing productivity.
