The world production of pig iron has grown

Global pig iron production increased 3.4 percent in May 2015 from the previous month. According to the latest statistics released by the World Steel Association, global pig iron production increased 3.4 percent from the previous month and reached 100.532 million tonnes in May this year. World pig iron production in the previous month of this year was 97.231 million tons.

Total pig iron production in the EU 28 in May this year was 8.323 million tonnes, up from 7.888 million tonnes achieved in April 2015. Pig iron production in Germany reached 2.385 million tons, while production in the UK was 0.875 million tons. Pig iron production in France rose to 0.98 million tonnes in May 2015 from 0.842 million tonnes produced in April this year.

Russia was a major producer of cast iron in May. The output of this country amounted to 4.350 million tons of pig iron, which is 3.3 percent more than a month earlier. In May this year, Ukraine produced 1.765 million. tons, which indicates an increase in output by 3.46 percent compared to April.

Among Asian countries, China accounted for nearly 60 percent of global blast furnace iron production in May 2015. The Chinese output of pig iron amounted to 60.961 million tons per month. Indian pig iron production climbed slightly above 4.930 million tonnes in May 2015, up from 4.773 million tonnes in April this year. Japanese pig iron production increased from 6.403 million tons in April 2015 to 6.774 million tons in May this year. In addition, South Korean pig iron output rose from 3.766 million tonnes in April to 3.968 million tonnes in May 2015.

US pig iron production rose nearly 6 percent during May to 2.10 million tonnes from the previous month. A notable increase in pig iron production was reported by metallurgists in Brazil in the month of May. Pig iron production in the country rose to 2.444 million tons in May 2015 from 2.362 million tons a month earlier.
