All alumina produced by AGK will be supplied by KrAZ

RUSAL, the world's leading aluminum producer, announces that by 2018 it plans to reorient all production at the Achinsk Alumina Refinery to supply raw materials to the Krasnoyarsk Aluminum Smelter, which consumes almost 2 million tons of alumina per year. This will ensure 45 percent of alumina supplies from the total consumption of KrAZ and will significantly reduce the company's transportation costs.

AGK plans to gradually increase the volume of alumina supplies to KrAZ. Initially, in 2015, it is planned to satisfy 32 percent of the alumina required by the plant, and next year to bring supplies to 752 thousand tons, gradually increasing to 45 percent. To achieve this goal, it is necessary to change the physical properties of alumina, since at present AGK supplies only alumina intended for use only in certain electrolysers of the Krasnoyarsk aluminum plant. Operations to change the physical properties of crystals and improve the quality of alumina are already underway.

Currently, the production of the Krasnoyarsk aluminum plant is provided with raw materials from the Nikolaev Alumina Plant, AGK and others, and the Achinsk Alumina Refinery supplies its products, in addition to the Krasnoyarsk plant, to the Bratsk and Irkutsk aluminum plants. Considering that KrAZ and AGK were built as a single complex, it is advisable to increase the supply of alumina to the maximum level in order to obtain economic benefits from the geographical proximity of the enterprises. In this regard, AGK is actively working to improve the quality and properties of alumina so that the entire volume of alumina can be used for the production of KrAZ, which produces 27 percent of all Russian aluminum and 3 percent of the world.

The Achinsk Alumina Refinery is the largest enterprise in Russia for the integrated processing of nepheline ores used for the production of alumina. Last year, the plant produced 891 thousand tons of alumina, which exceeds 30 percent of the total alumina production in Russia. AGK is the largest manufacturer on the domestic market. The design capacity of AGK is 900 thousand tons of alumina per year. Raw materials are supplied from mines belonging to the structure of the enterprise, such as the Kiya-Shaltyrsky nepheline and Mazulsky limestone mines, the reserves of which are sufficient for processing within 50-60 years.
