MMK shipped 5 million tonnes of steel products from mill 5000

The Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works shipped to consumers the 5 millionth ton of steel products from its 5000 hot rolling mill. The products of the 500 mill are most in demand among pipe manufacturers, and are also in demand in mechanical engineering, shipbuilding, and bridge building.

Within six years after the commissioning of rolling mill 5000, pipe industry enterprises such as OJSC TMK, ChTPZ, OJSC OMK received 3.86 million tons of rolled steel produced for the construction of the largest pipelines within the framework of projects of OJSC Transneft, OJSC Lukoil, OJSC Gazprom and other companies. These mill products are intended for the construction of gas and oil pipelines, including Bovanenkovo-Ukhta, Eastern Siberia-Pacific Ocean Kuyumba-Taishet, Sakhalin-Khabarovsk-Vladivostok, Southern Corridor, Power of Siberia and many others.

The implementation of these projects ensured the full capacity utilization of mill 5000. Further construction of the Power of Siberia and Turkish Stream pipelines, as well as the completion of the second stage of the Nord Stream, will maintain a high utilization of the rolling mill in the near future. It is expected that the new 5 million tons of rolled metal will be able to be shipped to consumers in a shorter period of time.

Another important direction for the supply of steel products for Mill 5000 is the shipbuilding industry. Over 95 thousand tons of rolled steel were supplied to the enterprises of this industry. Over 164 thousand tons of rolled metal were shipped for the construction of bridges, more than 355 thousand tons of rolled metal were intended for railway engineering and 11 thousand tons of products were shipped to the automotive industry. In addition, 395 thousand tons of rolled metal were shipped for other industries. The products of the hot rolling mill are also exported; in total, more than 192 thousand tons of rolled steel were sent abroad. During the 6-year operation of the mill, the production of 130 new steel grades was mastered and a huge number of sizes were developed.

Mill 5000 has an annual production capacity of 1.5 million plates. Mill 5000 was commissioned in July 2009, and in the second half of 2010 has already reached its design production capacity.
