The Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Combine of Uzbekistan (AGMK) has begun installing technological equipment, three ball mills, as part of a project for the reconstruction of a copper concentrator. The project cost is 117 680 thousand US dollars. Earlier it was reported that AGMK plans to complete the project by the end of 2015. The assembly of all mill units will be completed in November this year. Now two drums of the mills have already been installed on the foundation and the assemblies of their drives are being installed. At the same time, the drum body of the largest third mill is being assembled.
The implementation of the project provides for the construction of a new ore beneficiation complex, including a receiving hopper with a jaw crusher, an automated conveyor complex consisting of nine conveyors with a length of 1.2 km, ball mills and other equipment. The implementation of the project will increase the processing capacity by 7.8 million tons of ore per year. Currently, the design crushing capacity is 29 million tons of ore per year.
The project is financed from loans allocated by the Fund for Reconstruction and Development of Uzbekistan in the amount of $ 80 million, the Uzbek mortgage bank, Ipoteka Bank, in the amount of $ 32 million and funds from the AMMC. The contract for the development of all design documentation and technological regulations for the technological part of the project, as well as the supply of equipment, installation and commissioning is carried out by the Russian plant Tyazhmash (Syzran). According to the contract dated 2012, the plant supplied three ore mills, an automated conveyor complex and other technological equipment to Uzbekistan. The total cost of this work is $ 73.9 million.
The need to increase the capacity of the concentrator is associated with the reconstruction of the Kalmakir mine at the AGMK, as well as the expansion and reconstruction of the main raw material base of the AGMK at the Sary-Cheku open pit. AGMK is one of the largest producers of non-ferrous metals in Central Asia and the only copper producer in Uzbekistan. It accounts for about 90 percent of the country's silver production and 20 percent of the country's gold production. The plant consists of two mining companies, two beneficiation plants and two metallurgical plants with their own infrastructure.
