MMK's new section mills produced 15 million tonnes of products

The long section shop of the Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK) produced the 15 millionth ton of long products at new section mills.
Over the past decade, the plant has carried out a radical modernization of its section rolling production, as a result of which all old mills that have been operating since the 30s of the twentieth century were dismantled and replaced with modern ones. In the period from 2005 to 2006, three new fully automated section mills with an annual capacity of more than 2 million tons were put into operation in the section shop of MMK.

The equipment was supplied by the Italian company Danieli and includes: section mill 450, designed for the production of channel, angle, circle, strips, with an annual production capacity of up to 790 thousand tons; light section mill 370 - for rolling reinforcing bar, square, hexagon and circle up to 50 mm in diameter, with a capacity of 585 thousand tons per year; small-section wire mill 170, producing wire rod and thermally hardened small-sized rebar with an annual capacity of 765 thousand tons.

High-grade mills in terms of equipment are among the most advanced in the world and are the first mills of this level to appear in the post-Soviet space. This equipment enables MMK to produce high-quality long products of the widest range in accordance with world standards. Products are supplied both to the domestic and foreign markets.

Among the important advantages of these mills are high productivity, a wide range of products, line flexibility, economy and efficiency achieved due to the highest level of production automation. In 2008, the new mills produced the 5 millionth ton of long products, and in 2012 - the 10 millionth ton.

In addition, new types of products and progressive technologies are constantly being mastered in the section shop in order to improve the quality of products and increase the stability of production. Last year, the section rolling shop reached a record level of hot rolled products in the newest history of the plant, amounting to 1.84 million tonnes of products since the commissioning of new rolling mills. New section mills now have a high degree of workload and provide long products to the construction industry and MMK's hardware production.
