The largest drop in steel production during June was observed in Ukraine. The production of crude steel this month amounted to 2.0 million tons, which is 21.8 percent less than in June last year. Ukrainian metallurgists in June produced 1.83 million tons of pig iron and 1.79 million tons of general rolled products.
In the first half of 2015, 11.254 million tons of steel were produced in Ukraine, which is 27.3 percent less compared to the same period in 2014. In addition, sales of steel products decreased on the Ukrainian market. South Korea produced 5.9 million tons of crude steel, down 3.6 percent from June 2014.
In June this year, Russia smelted 5.6 million tons of crude steel, which is 7.5 percent less than in June 2014.
The crude steel capacity utilization rate of 65 countries in June 2015 was 72.2 percent. This is 3.5 percent lower than in June 2014, and compared to May 2015 by 0.1 percentage points higher.
