Global primary aluminum production, excluding China, fell significantly during June this year, while consumption rose.
The latest statistics released by the International Aluminum Institute (IAI) show that global aluminum production in June this year declined from the previous month, but this trend has not affected China.
According to IAI, total aluminum production in June 2015 was 2.056 million tonnes, down nearly 3.7 percent from a revised output of 2.135 million tonnes in May 2015, when the global aluminum market already recorded a deficit of 261,000 tonnes in during the first five months of the year.
Average daily aluminum production in June 2015 was also slightly lower compared to the previous month. The daily output, excluding China, averaged 68,500 tons per day, down 400 tons per day from the average daily production of 68,900 tons during May this year. The average daily aluminum output in China in June was 91,900 tons, significantly higher than the 87,200 tons achieved in May this year.
Meanwhile, Nork Hydro estimates that global primary aluminum consumption rose nearly 15 percent quarter-on-quarter to 14.8 million tonnes during the second quarter of this year. At the same time, compared to the second quarter of 2014, aluminum consumption increased by 5 percent. Global demand in the second quarter of this year, excluding China, grew by 5.8 percent compared to the first quarter of 2015.
IAI, founded in 1972, currently represents over 60 percent of the world's bauxite, alumina and aluminum production. The institute works closely with national and regional aluminum associations. IAI brings together the largest companies involved in the production of bauxite, alumina, aluminum, aluminum processing, or the manufacture of aluminum products in joint ventures.
