The latest data released by the World Steel Association shows that global production of direct reduced iron (DRI) in June this year increased by almost 4.5 percent from the previous month. Manufacturing data compiled from 14 countries, accounting for over 87 percent of global DRI output in 2014.
DRI production during June 2015 was 5,142,000 tonnes, up 4.49 percent from the 4,921,000 tonnes produced in May this year. According to World Steel, India ranked first in DRI production for a month. Iran became the second largest DRI producing country, with Saudi Arabia the third.
India's DRI output in June this year was 1,539,000 tonnes. At the same time, the country's DRI output slightly decreased compared to the previous month, falling by 1.2 percent. Iran's DRI production in June this year was 1.340 million tons, up 28.7 percent from the previous month's production of 1,041,000 tons. Saudi Arabia's DRI output in June was 460,000 tons, down 2.95 percent from its output in May this year.
The DRI output (in thousand tons) for the other eleven countries in June 2015 is as follows: Canada (137), Mexico (445), Trinidad and Tobago (110), Argentina (78), Peru (8) Venezuela (105), Egypt (225), Libya (70), South Africa (135), Qatar (220) and the United Arab Emirates (270).
