According to the American International Steel Institute (AIIS), US exports totaled 885,191 tons of steel in June this year, up 1.7 percent from the previous month, but down 15 percent year on year.
The main reason for the drop in US steel exports is related to the decline in demand in Canada. During the first six months of 2015, US steel exports declined 12.6 percent year on year. Exports fell 20.3 percent to Canada and 1 percent to Mexico in the first half of this year.
At the same time, the American Institute said in a statement that despite the dependence of exports on the productivity of the economies of Canada and Mexico, exports are expected to be strong by the end of this year.
