Global DRI production continued to rise in July

The latest statistics released by the World Steel Association show a further increase in direct reduced iron (DRI) production from major global steel producers during July 2015. Global DRI production during July this year was 5.233 million tonnes, up 2.33 percent from 5.114 million tonnes achieved in June this year.

India ranks first in DRI production for a month, according to World Steel. Iran and Mexico were the second and third largest producers of DRI.

India's DRI output in July is estimated to have been 1.635 million tonnes. The country's DRI production increased 6.24 percent from the previous month. Iran's DRI production in July this year was 1.255 million tons, down 6.34 percent from the previous month's 1.340 million tons. Mexico's DRI output in July was 500,000 tonnes, up 4.38 percent from its June output this year.

The DRI output (in thousand tons) of the other eleven countries in July 2015 is as follows: Canada (156), Saudi Arabia (475), Trinidad and Tobago (85), Argentina (61), Peru (7), Venezuela (115) , Egypt (235), Libya (25), South Africa (140), Qatar (237) and the United Arab Emirates (307).

Production figures are based on figures provided by 14 countries, which account for over 87 percent of global DRI production.
