Largest Lead Acid Recycling Plant to Open in Nevada

Aqua Metals has begun construction of a lead acid battery recycling facility in McCarran, Nevada. The company expects to start production in the second quarter of 2016. Aqua Metals expects to achieve a yield of 80 tonnes of lead in the fourth quarter of 2016. This state-of-the-art facility will complement the Tahoe Reno Industrial Center and is a 125,000 square foot recycling plant.

The company is a leading processor in the country, and its AquaRefining modular electrochemical process is designed to produce ultra-pure lead from used lead-acid batteries. The environmentally friendly method generates virtually no emissions and uses less energy, making it more cost effective than traditional lead smelting. AquaRefining technology has been designed to improve recycling while reducing the cost and toxic waste generated by conventional lead acid battery disposal. The concept allows for a better product with a higher lead yield, which makes the recycling plant more profitable than building conventional plants, and, moreover, the new technology is less harmful to the environment.

The representative of the company, responsible for the electrical system AquaRefining, at the ceremony dedicated to the start of construction, stated that “this is the next step on the path of commercial activity, which is a milestone in our mission to create an environmentally sustainable lead recycling process and we believe we have chosen the perfect location for that. ”

Aqua Metals joins a new plant with Tesla Motors in the Tahoe Reno Industrial Center. The center forecasts 6,500 jobs and plans to produce 500,000 batteries per year for electric vehicles. The plant will ultimately support increased production of Tesla's home and business battery line. The plant will become part of the company's system of Renault, San Francisco, Las Vegas and Los Angeles.
