Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK) delivered 565,000 tons of rolled metal to service metal centers in Russia over the seven months of this year. This was noted at the 6th all-Russian conference "Service metal centers: equipment, technologies, market", held in Samara. The MMK spokesman said that supplies to service metal centers accounted for 17 percent of the total volume of flat products shipped by the plant to the domestic market of the country. Thus, 57,000 tons of steel products were sold through their own metal centers in St. Petersburg and in Shchelkovo, Moscow region.
The Magnitogorsk Metallurgical Plant supplies steel products for all types of activities of metal centers. Almost two-thirds of the total supply of rolled metal supplied to service metal centers is used for the production of corrugated board. About 34 percent of the supply falls on the metal trade, as well as the provision of packaging, dissolution and cutting services.
An important area of activity of service centers is stamping and production of parts for manufacturers of household appliances and the automotive industry. MMK is one of the largest suppliers to car and home appliance manufacturers. The deliveries to car manufacturers are carried out by MMK both directly and through its own and third-party service metal centers.
Among its own metal centers CJSC Interkos-IV in St. Petersburg, which produces large-sized dies, molds up to 70 tons, as well as stamped parts for the automotive industry and manufacturers of household appliances. SMC has five lines for metal processing, has a modern technical base and an extensive customer base. CJSC Interkos-IV performs transverse, longitudinal and shaped cutting of coiled steel.
MMK-Profile-Moscow in Shchelkovo is focused on the manufacture of products for construction. The service center is equipped with Italian equipment designed for the longitudinal and lateral dissolution of galvanized coiled steel and polymer-coated metal products, as well as the production of tiles and corrugated board.
