Nord Stream gas pipeline to deprive Kiev of $ 2 billion in revenue

Arseniy Yatsenyuk, Ukraine's prime minister, said that the construction of the second string of the Nord Stream gas pipeline would deprive Kiev of the ability to transport gas to the European Union and could lead to a loss of $ 2 billion in revenue. In June, Gazprom announced plans to build two additional branches of the Nord Stream gas pipeline, from Russia to Germany, as part of a joint project with E.ON, Shell and OMV, with an estimated cost of 9.9 billion euros.

At the same time, there are problems with water supply in the country. The quality of water in the plumbing system is still far from European standards and needs additional treatment to bring the water to the drinking level. At the same time, the problems with the use of the gas pipeline system of Ukraine are still not so acute, but in the future they may deprive the income from transit.

The Nord Stream-2 project, which plans to use the Nord Stream pipeline as a transit route by 86 percent, before the outgoing branches begin, which can provide up to 55 billion cubic meters of direct gas supplies per year to European consumers.

During a briefing after a meeting with the Prime Minister of Slovakia, Robert Fico Yatsenyuk said that "For Ukraine, the construction of the gas pipeline will mean the exclusion of Ukraine from transit supplies to the European Union, which will lead to losses of $ 2 billion that we receive from gas supplies to the EU." ...

He said that Kiev has decided to maximize its gas return from Slovakia. Yatsenyuk noted that “We have significantly increased our gas purchases over the past few weeks, and almost reached 100 percent capacity. Ukraine pays 100 percent for the reserved capacity of the Slovak company, regardless of whether it buys gas or not. We have now decided to maximize the volume of the return flow to Ukraine ”.
