According to statistics from the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), crude steel production in the country fell sharply during the week ending September 12, 2015.
Total domestic crude steel production last week was 1.694 million tonnes. AISI data show that crude steel production in the United States declined 2.7 percent during the week compared to the previous week, when production numbers were 1.741 million tonnes. In addition, weekly output was down 9.8 percent from production of 1.878 million tonnes in the same week of the previous year.
The capacity utilization rate of the U.S. steel industry fell to 70.9 percent in the week ending September 12, 2015. Then, as the capacity utilization rate in the previous week was 72.8 percent. In addition, capacity utilization was significantly lower compared to 78.1 percent during the same week in 2014.
