Severstal increases supplies to car manufacturers

Over the past eight months of 2015, Severstal increased shipments of high-strength steels with the Bake Hardening effect by 42 percent year-on-year. Since the beginning of the year, Severstal has supplied 7,000 tonnes of these products to AvtoVAZ, General Motors, Hyundai-Kia, Volkswagen, Ford Sollers, which are the main consumers of high-strength steels.

Dmitry Goroshkov, Marketing and Sales Director of the Severstal Russian Steel Division, explained that the company continues to increase the supply of advanced steel grades in order to meet the high demands of foreign and domestic car manufacturers for the materials used. Despite the decline in the global steel market, new types of steel enable the company to increase its share in supplies to foreign automakers that have localized production in Russia and the CIS.

In the domestic market, Severstal is one of the first metallurgical companies to have mastered the production of high-strength steels and today it can provide car manufacturers with the widest range of this type of steel. The Cherepovets Metallurgical Plant, which is part of the Severstal Russian Steel division, supplies auto manufacturers with hot-rolled and cold-rolled steel.

Bake Hardening steels have a higher stamping capability than conventional steels. At the same time, stamped parts are significantly hardened at high temperatures during the drying process of the paintwork. This improves the strength of the exterior parts of the vehicle. Improving the quality of metal products for the automotive industry is achieved through close cooperation between steel makers and car manufacturers, which ensures the development of new types of metal products.
