France is on the verge of concluding a deal to sell to Egypt two Mistral ships that were originally produced for Russia. The Cairo regime receives $ 1.3 billion in annual US financial aid to buy military equipment and weapons.
French President François Hollande and his Egyptian counterpart Abdel Fattah al-Sisi agreed on the main aspects of the sale of two Mistral helicopter carriers after the termination of the deal with Russia. The heads of state agreed on the terms of the purchase.
The deal appears to be funded by US military aid to Egypt. France, under pressure from its Western allies, canceled the agreement on the supply of warships to Russia in the framework of the Ukrainian-Russian crisis and must pay almost 1 billion euros in compensation.
