ArcelorMittal expands capacity of its pipe plant in Mexico

ArcelorMittal has announced a $ 11.1 million investment in a pipe facility in Monterrey, Mexico, to improve its ability to provide products to the North American automotive market.

The investment will go towards creating additional world-class tubular products to further reduce the cost of the final product process, allowing the facility to supply high quality straight and curved tubing used in car seats and head restraints.

Construction has already begun and is expected to be completed in spring 2016, after which ArcelorMittal Monterrey will be able to produce electrowelded pipes with diameters from 11 mm to 165 mm in various thicknesses and from a wide range of steel grades - from structural to modern high-strength steels (AHSS), popular in the automotive sector. The expansion can add over 80 new jobs.

The project complements and expands the company's portfolio of high-value applications in Monterrey, which includes tubular products such as drive shafts, rectangular tubes, round tubes and custom shapes.

The special welding process used in the production allows the object to achieve the highest quality and meet all the requirements of non-destructive testing. The existing facility includes three divisions for the production of pipes and various additional operations, including bending, laser cutting and other operations. In addition to its pipe business, ArcelorMittal Monterrey provides steel cutting and welding services.
