Employees of the largest steel mill in the UK, shut down and mothballed by the Thai owner, SSI, cannot find their management and get an explanation of what to do next: where to go for benefits, benefits, etc.
Many did not even receive a notice of dismissal. Local MP Anna Turley "strongly" advises such employees to come to the workplace and get the necessary documents and explanations.
In Teesside, a kind of crisis headquarters has been created, which includes representatives of trade unions and the pension department.
The workers claim that they continue to be listed in the SSI UK, which no longer exists.
We would like to remind that the Redkar metallurgical plant was stopped last week due to its unprofitableness. 2,200 people remained outside the gates.
The British government announced that it does not intend to intervene in the situation, since, firstly, it has no right to do this in accordance with EU laws, and secondly, because Redcar will not save anything, since any resumption of steel smelting will be unprofitable ...
In addition, business secretary Sajid Javid said that there is no guarantee that the aid allocated for Redcar will not go into the pockets of Thai bankers, to whom SSI owes a lot of money.
“I'm not going to use British taxpayer money to bail out Thai banks,” he said.
Anna Turley, meanwhile, remains hopeful that steel production at Teesside will resume.
In France, Germany and Italy, we see that steel production can be profitable in the future, said Ms Turley.
“We are going to initiate a ban on steel supplies from China so that the UK metallurgy remains viable,” she said.
The dismissed metallurgists of the Redkar plant are in despair and do not know where to go to get benefits
