From NATO's point of view, the violation of Turkish airspace by Russian military aircraft was deliberate. This was announced on Tuesday by the secretary general of the alliance Jens Stoltenberg. He stressed that "serious" violations of Turkey's sovereignty occurred twice over the past weekend.
In addition, Stoltenberg once again stated that Russian planes are not bombing ISIS, but the Syrian opposition and civilians.
“I am concerned that the Russians are not bombing the Islamic state, but are shelling the Syrian opposition and citizens,” he said.
Recall that today, Russian Ambassador Andrei Karpov was summoned to the Turkish Foreign Ministry again in connection with a new violation of the airspace by the Russian Air Force, which, according to Ankara, occurred on Sunday, October 4.
First Deputy Foreign Minister of Turkey Ahmet Mukhtar Gun expressed a strong protest and demanded that the Russian representative take measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation called the first case of violation of Turkish airspace "an accident" associated with bad weather conditions and said that all the necessary measures were taken to ensure flight safety.
The Syrian airbase, from which the Russian air forces carry out their combat missions, is located 30 km from the border with Turkey.
