October 7, Washington. According to the American Iron and Steel Institute AISI, US steel production fell 0.5 percent in the week ended Oct. 3, after rising 1.7 percent a week earlier. Total production in all states was 1 million 727 thousand tons per week.
Nevertheless, compared to the same week a year earlier, the drop in US steel production remains significant and reaches 7.3 percent. Recall that in the same week since the beginning of 2014, US metallurgical companies smelted 1 million 862 thousand tons of steel.
The utilization rate of metallurgical capacities in the United States in the reporting week decreased to 72.2 percent and is still above the annual minimum, but significantly lower compared to the same period last year (77.4 percent).
