The US will not cooperate with Russia in the war against the Islamic State

The United States will not cooperate with Russia in Syria because Moscow's strategy is "tragically flawed," US Defense Secretary Ash Carter said Wednesday. Nevertheless, the United States is ready to hold discussions with the Russians on technical issues of flight safety, reports Reuters.

“We are not ready to cooperate on a strategy that, as we have explained, is a mistaken, tragic decision on the part of Russia,” Carter said during a trip to Rome, echoing accusations that the bombing of the Russian air force was not directed at the Islamic state of the militants.

“Whatever the Russians say, we have not agreed to cooperate with Russia as long as they continue to pursue a flawed strategy and bombard these targets,” Carter said.

“What we will do in the future is to conduct basic technical discussions on safety procedures for our pilots who fly in Syria,” the head of the defense department summed up.

Pentagon spokesman Peter Cook said on Tuesday that the United States is awaiting an official response from Russia to US proposals for using simple security protocols, such as maintaining a safe distance between American and Russian aircraft and using emergency radio frequencies.

Russian Deputy Defense Minister Anatoly Antonov, quoted by TASS on Tuesday, agreed in principle with the proposals made by the United States to coordinate military flights.

He said the two countries will hold a second joint videoconference on the issue "in the coming days."

Earlier today, US Permanent Representative to NATO Douglas Lute said that the North Atlantic Alliance and the United States are not going to share intelligence on Syria with Russia as long as Moscow supports Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

The rapidly growing geopolitical tensions in the Gulf region are steadily raising oil prices. Analysts said that with such a development of the situation as it is today, oil in a month or two may rise in price to $ 60 per barrel.

After the bombing of Syria began, the Russian currency won back about 10 percent from the American one, and oil rose in price by 8 percent.
