British metallurgical unions have demanded an immediate investigation into allegations of the Thai company SSI embezzling pension payments from workers at the Redcar steel plant in Teesside, which was shut down in late September.
According to union bosses, workers at the plant claim that the Thai company made the appropriate deductions from their salaries, but the money received did not make it into the retirement accounts.
Unions are extremely concerned that the UK branch of SSI began liquidation procedures last week and workers could be deceived.
Recall that the Thai company SSI has decided to abandon the production of steel in the UK due to its unprofitableness.
After the shutdown of the largest metallurgical enterprise, they started talking in London about the crisis in the industry and intend to look for ways to save the remaining plants, mainly owned by the Indian company Tata Steel.
