US steel production in early October continued to decline after a slight increase in August. According to the American Steel Institute AISI, during the week ended October 10, 2015, steel production in the states was 1.705 million tons using metallurgical capacity at 71.3 percent.
Compared to the same week in 2014, smelting steel in the United States fell by 7.3 percent.
Utilization of steel capacity last week was the lowest in 2015, dropping from 72.2 percent in the previous week. US capacity utilization was significantly lower than 76.5 percent in the same week the previous year.
