Ukraine increased export of scrap metal by 54 percent

In January - September 2015, Ukrainian scrap collectors exported 1 million 81 thousand 346 tons of ferrous scrap, which is 54.3 percent higher than the corresponding figure for the same period last year (APPG). This follows from the data published on Tuesday by the customs service of Ukraine.

In monetary terms, income from the export of scrap metal increased by 17 percent compared to 2014 and amounted to 260 million 201 thousand US dollars.

The main recipients of Ukrainian scrap metal were Turkey, whose share in the export structure was about 80 percent and Moldova (Transnistria), where more than 19 percent of Ukrainian scrap went.

At the same time, the import of scrap metal in January-September 2015, the country decreased by half to about two thousand tons. The import was carried out mainly from Turkey (94.15 percent of deliveries in monetary terms) and Moldova (3.52 percent).

As reported, in 2014 Ukraine exported 936.937 thousand tons of ferrous scrap worth USD 295.191 million, while in 2013 - 255.272 thousand tons of scrap metal for USD 79.648 million.

Metallurgical enterprises of Ukraine do not get tired of announcing problems with the supply of scrap metal to the domestic market, but they refuse to pay competitive prices for it. As a result, supplies of ferrous scrap to Ukrainian steel plants in 2014 decreased by 24 percent compared to the previous year - to 3.370 million tons and, as we can see, continue to decline this year.
