Alexey Mordashov was re-elected to the Executive Committee of the World Steel Association

Alexey Mordashov, Chairman of the Board of Directors of PJSC Severstal, has been re-elected to the Executive Committee of The World Steel Association. The decision to elect the executive committee with a new composition was made by the Worldsteel Board of Directors during the 49th Worldsteel International Conference, held in Chicago on October 11-14. The term of office of the new Worldsteel executive committee will last until October 2016. At the moment, Alexey Mordashov is the only Russian representative in the Worldsteel management.

Alexey Mordashov also took part in the 49th Worldsteel international conference. The head of Severstal co-moderated the session “Innovative Approaches for a Successful Future of the Steel Industry”. Together with Alexey Mordashov, the session was moderated by Dr. Luis Schorsch, General Director of ArcelorMittal Americas.

Panellists discussed areas of industry development that could foster innovation in steel mills, and the benefits of innovation for a manufacturer.

Alexey Mordashov noted the fundamental importance of innovations in the steel industry and outlined three areas that steel producers should focus on: greater customer focus and exchange of experience with consumers; redefining technologies and generating industry-relevant ideas; joint efforts to improve the environmental performance of the industry.

Traditionally, during the annual Worldsteel conference, the results of the Steelie Awards competition established by the Association are summed up. This year, the jury awarded the Severstal corporate website (www.severstal.com), which was shortlisted for the “Site of the World Steel Industry Year” nomination. In addition to the Severstal website, four more corporate Internet resources were included in the short list. The main criteria for evaluating the contestants in the Site of the Year nomination are general design, site page loading, the range of information presented and its significance, ease of navigation and the use of new technologies. The expert commission selects the best ones, evaluating the websites of all members of the Association.

The Steelie Awards have been held annually by the Steel Producers Association since 2010 to assess the contribution of its members to the sustainable development of the global steel industry. In 2014, within the framework of the Steelie Awards competition, Alexey Mordashov was recognized as the best speaker in the steel industry.

In 2014, the 48th conference of the World Steel Association was successfully held in Moscow. Despite the difficult foreign policy situation, the first conference in the history of Worldsteel in Russia was no less representative than the current congress in Chicago.
