At a summit held on Saturday with the participation of heads of metallurgical companies and the British government, businessmen voiced three main requirements, the fulfillment of which could save the dying steel industry of Foggy Albion.
First, the metallurgists have demanded to immediately reduce or subsidize electricity prices, which will be very difficult to do without violating European Union standards.
Secondly, the business demanded to reduce the payment for CO2 emissions to the level of the European average.
Third, steelmakers have asked the government to immediately start an investigation into the dumping of steel from other countries, in particular from China.
In addition, the summit discussed the issues of stimulating car manufacturers and construction companies, which are the main buyers of metal products in the UK market.
Recall that in a month the UK lost more than 3,000 jobs in the metallurgical industry and lost its largest steel company. The situation in the industry continues to deteriorate after Tata Steel announced the suspension of its metallurgical production in Scantrop, as a result of which about 1,200 people could be outside the gates of the plant.
